Nominet to consult again on criminal use of domains

Nominet will conduct a further round of public consultation before implementing a policy for dealing with domains associated with criminal activity.

The Nominet Board communique states:

Further research and legal advice was presented in relation to the ongoing policy development for dealing with domain names associated with criminal activity. The Board agreed to conduct a public consultation prior to implementing the final recommendations.

This is directly in line with the position taken by LINX in the Stakeholder Group consultations, when LINX said that Nominet should consult on the content and wording of any future policy, rather than proceeding directly from a consultation on the principles to implementation of a policy that had not been drafted at the time of the first consultation.
